  Milson Valley 4

  Interspecies Public Relations Officer

Wizard Tudor Masters was working toward leaving his old coven when he had the misfortune of overhearing a Senator conspiring against the Council. Going into hiding, he ends up at the Armstrong coven, where he runs into a gorgeous wolf who denies they’re mates, and a fae prince who saves Tudor from vampires.

Caspar Morgan is scouting locations to relocate his fae guild. What he finds is a gorgeous wolf shifter who, instead of happily claiming Cas, bolts in the other direction and denies that Cas (and a smart wizard in danger from three different factions) are his mates.

While Luka, a very uniquely gifted wolf, flirts and keeps his distance emotionally, Tudor remains quiet and watchful and smells like cinnamon and ice cream. Cas will protect his mates, wait them out, lust after both, and put up with Luka’s numerous friends and family members who feel it necessary to stick their noses in and cause more chaos than help.

  Chapter One

Luka Charmers flirted, charmed, and smiled his way into his father’s office at city hall, not even bothering to knock.

Luka Charmers was a born and bred Milson City boy. His father was Mayor Rainer Charmers, and he had family scattered throughout the city, the outer ’burbs, and the surrounding valley. Luka loved to spend his days lazing about, flirting, tinkering with his Corvette, and occasionally doing what his Alpha needed.

“Afternoon, son.” Mayor Rainer was seated behind his big, antique desk not looking a day over twenty-two.

That was paranormals for you. They never looked older than twenty-two unless they were long-lived paranormals rather than immortal, then they began to slowly age in the last few years of their long lives.

Because of this, and his position as the city mayor, Luka’s father was putting grey streaks in his hair thinking it made him like wiser and more distinguished. Luka and his younger sister thought it made him look like a doofus.

“Hey, Dad.” Luka had also noticed the big man seated in front of the desk and tilted his head to the side. “Alpha.”

Luka didn’t bow to anyone. He did things his own way, at his own pace, and mostly if he wanted to. But he respected Alpha Urian Starters, loved and respected his father and a few others, plus he had pack mentality. So he did show respect for his pack mates and those affiliated, such as the Sanchez pride, the Armstrong coven, and the Astons. Uri was also like another strict, overprotective, annoying, and bossy older brother to Luka.

“Luka, how was your holiday?” Uri rose and gave Luka a quick hug and slap on the back.

“Good, relaxing. I got lots of presents for the pups!” Luka sat in the other seat opposite his father. “And a great tan.”

Uri laughed. He was the Milson City Chief of Police, a position he shared with his second-in-command, Tripp Croggen. He was an Alpha, an immortal wolf who could be harsh when necessary, a great leader, and all-around nice guy. Unless, of course, you were an idiot and did something stupid to piss him off—then he was a feral nightmare.

“You and your tanning, Luka. And thanks for the pups’ presents. You dote on them.”

Luka flushed a little. The pups of their pack were just so frigging cute, and little terrors. He really enjoyed that about them.

“I have boxes piling up at home,” the mayor said with a chuckle. “How many more packages are coming, Luka?”

Shrugging, Luka checked his watch. “A few more, found some snazzy Halloween outfits.”

  “Got somewhere to be, wolf?”

Grinning at the Alpha, Luka winked. “Always, Chief.”

  His fath
er just shook his head. “You need to stop playing the field, son.”

“Oh, Dad, you joker, you.” Luka laughed.

Growling, his father tossed a map across the table. “I’m not joking. Last month I had a sobbing secretary after you two fucked on my desk and you forgot to call him. A few days before that there was a vampire declaring he was going to tear your nuts off for cheating on him. Try having a relationship, son.”

“I do! They just don’t last long.” Luka smirked.

Gods, no, relationships were so not Luka’s thing. Footloose, fancy free. There were so many creatures out there to enjoy.

His father sighed. “I had to call Prince-mate Xavier in to deal with the vampire. We don’t want problems with his kind. They’ve only just moved into their coven in the Village and have opened up a lot of new businesses and invested in others. Plus, they have joined the Alliance and soldier patrols.”

Vampires could be so testy. Some possessive and territorial, others aloof and detached. There hadn’t been many vamps in Milson City up until a month ago, less than a handful, with the nearest coven a hundred-odd miles away. A few months back, Xavier had mentioned his coven leader, Queen Bethany, was establishing a coven here in Milson City, as this was such a stronghold of paranormals and pretty close to everything on this side of the States.

Luka saw it as a good thing, as did most of the pack and Sanchez pride, the W&W Coven, and the humans. Of course there were those who were disgruntled over this and the influence of more and more paranormals in their territory. Considering the way Renegades were getting in and causing shit, having more creatures on the good side could only help.

“Cool. How is Xavier?” Luka asked cheerfully. He’d always liked the elegant, gorgeous vamp.

“Mated and now residing at the Sanchez Compound.”

Luka frowned. “Ri-ight, I know. He’s been mated for years to that sexy little human of his and I was here when he was claimed by Drake.”

Drake was the Crown Prince of the Sanchez pride, who had their compound five miles outside of Milson City. The compound was huge and even had their own villages with shops and day care. The Sanchez pride trained soldiers. It didn’t matter if they were pride, pack, coven, herd, or any other creature group. Most creatures went to the Sanchez pride for training and were taught at least how to defend themselves and get out of dangerous situations. Trained soldiers then worked for the valley, Alliance, Council, or other groups to protect and keep peace and order.

It was a good setup. The Starters pack sent their pups there for training and those that needed specialized training came to the pack. Luka had been going for years and learned a hell of a lot. He was also best friends with one of the tigers who lived out at the compound and a wizard in the Armstrong coven. They were very well-known around the city and valley.

“Glad you remember. You can stop drooling over him now,” Uri commented.

“No harm in admiring.” Luka grinned cheekily.

  “Alpha?” the mayor said.

Urian steepled his fingers, smiling, studying Luka. “I feel we need to keep Luka a little more occupied with pack business. Officially, he is our interspecies public relations officer. As we have a lot going on at the moment, we need you to take a more hands-on role, Luka. We have fae in the area scouting for locations for one of their groups, guilds, whichever it is they term their pack. And we have been informed that, along with the vamp coven that just moved in, there will be a gargoyle domain, which is just another term for coven or pack.” Uri growled softly. “We want them to stay. With shit going on around us with the Renegades, the fae are an excellent ally to have close at hand. As are the vamps and definitely the gargoyles. Those creatures are fierce and protective of those they form an alliance with, but nasty when crossed. The Sanchez pride, W&W coven, and our pack all agree.

“What we want you to do is keep an eye on the fae. There are a lot of locations for them to choose from. Make sure none of our pack or creatures in the valley and city cause any crap that ruffles their sensitivities and chases them away,” Uri said seriously. “Keep an eye on them today, note the locations they take an interest in, report back and tomorrow you, Mayor Rainer, and I will speak to the fae in charge.” Uri frowned.

“Prince Caspar Morgan. Though he seems to prefer informality and his underlings called him sir or Cas,” the mayor added.

“Sure, I can do that. I need to stretch my legs anyway and after sitting so long my car needs a good run.”

“No car. We don’t want to look like we’re spying. Go in wolf form and make it seem like you’re just taking your wolf for a roam in case you’re spotted. Fae don’t have the heightened smell so stay upwind where possible.”

  “Not a problem.”

They chatted a few more minutes before the Alpha went back to his day job. Luka went over the map with his father and got the usual scolding about relationships, not fucking around so much, and to get a haircut.

As of a few weeks ago, Luka was officially a grown-up. Yeah, yeah, he’d been a grown-up for a while now per human standards, but he was also a wolf shifter and as such fell under his kind’s laws and rules. That meant he was a “pup” up until he turned thirty and had complete control over his wolf and gift. Every paranormal had a gift—well, as far as Luka knew anyway. He hadn’t met any that didn’t have a particular gift, and some were better than others. Due to Luka’s gift, he was well protected and well trained.

He was also very happy to be a “grown up.” He had his own place, away from his pack and family always watching his every move and bossing him around. He could stay out and do whatever he wanted. Not that he hadn’t done that before hitting thirty years of age. Nope, Luka enjoyed himself fully and was used to being hunted down and kicked back into line by his big brother and surrogate big brothers, including Uri.

Heading to his decked out condo a few streets away from city hall, Luka grabbed a backpack. He put in water, a bit of food, his camera, and his phone. He also tossed in a few things that might be necessary, like lube—the candy-flavored kind—and condoms. Creatures didn’t require such protection. They didn’t have diseases and couldn’t get any, but humans got all weirded out if creatures didn’t wear condoms.

Leaving his condo, Luka walked lazily out of town, stripping off at the edge of the forest, tossing his pack and clothes onto the ground and shifted into his wolf form. Like every creature, fae had a scent individual to their kind. It took nearly an hour to find the scent. He headed in various different directions before spotting fae at an old property twenty minutes out of the suburbs surrounding the city. The property had a big old estate that had seen better days, the buildings crumbling, fences rotted. He lay down, chin on his crossed front paws, watching as the group of ten took photos and did some weird magic. He wasn’t a fan of fae and their magic, and damn, he really wasn’t a fan a half an hour later when another car with three more fae in arrived.

The air zipped and zinged around Luka. He had to concentrate to stay in wolf form and not to growl and go running across the property, leap on a creature, and sink his canines in deep. And rut, yeah, lots of fucking and rutting.

  Oh hells no!

Luka didn’t bother hanging around. He hightailed it out of there as fast as he could, knowing he made enough noise to alert everyone within a five-mile radius as his wolf howled in protest and fought him. He dug at the ground then bolted.

His man side was all for bolting, his wolf not so much. But who wanted to listen to that idiot beast?! Not Luka, no fucking way! He was out of here, and he wasn’t stopping for anyone.

All the way to his backpack there was a struggle but once he reined his wolf in, tied the bugger down, and let him know there wouldn’t be any more wandering, sniffing out cool scents of luscious creatures he could have some rolls in the hay with, the wolf subsided, maybe a little conflicted. But the wolf and man were part of one another, were one, and the wolf liked to rut and fuck around as much as the man. Neither cared about settling down and the
thought of not being able to get some tail whenever they felt like just didn’t work for either wolf or man.

At his backpack, Luka dressed in a hurry and ran to his condo, grabbed his car and skidded out of there, doing the finger to a passing wolf. Who just happened to be his older brother, Drax, who was also an Enforcer, a type of protector, for the pack. A frigging powerful one who made it his business to keep Luka in line…well, as much as anyone could keep Luka in line.

Of course that ticked Drax off and once he caught up with Luka at the Armstrong witch and wizard coven gate, Drax was fuming and hauled Luka out of his sporty Corvette and up against the side of the car.

“You’re getting a ticket for speeding, brother.” Drax, bigger and taller than Luka, frowned and took a deep sniff. “Luka? What’s wrong? You’re freaked out.”

“What’s going on out there?” One of the witches spoke over the gate intercom. “Is that you, Enforcer Drax?”

“Need to see Laurie,” Luka panted.

“Fine, but you’re telling me what is going on. You were out scouting the fae, something happen there?”

Luka shuddered, pulling away from his brother and going to the intercom. “This is Luka Charmers and Enforcer Charmers to see Laurence Armstrong.”

“Come on through and no wolf fighting,” the witch snapped.

“You’re going to fill me in, Luka.” Drax strode to his car as the gates swung open to the W&W coven.

Yeah, Drax was all about taking care of the pack, and got right into everyone’s business when he felt like it. He was also very protective of family. And Luka really didn’t want his brother sticking his nose into this for that would turn out real bad for Luka.
